Ground coffee is roasted coffee beans milled to a fine or medium powder, used in baking for coffee cakes, tiramisu, mocha frostings, and spice rubs. One metric cup (250 ml) of ground coffee weighs around 90 grams or 3.17 ounces. Recipes typically call for it by the tablespoon or teaspoon, where 1 tsp weighs about 1.8 grams.

Espresso grind packs far more tightly than a coarser drip grind, delivering stronger flavour per teaspoon. Measuring by weight avoids inconsistency between grind sizes when scaling a spice rub or baking recipe.
