Basmati is a long-grain rice with a distinctive floral fragrance, grown mainly in the Indian subcontinent. One metric cup (250 ml) of uncooked basmati rice weighs 200 g (7.05 oz). Use this converter when a recipe calls for cups and you want to weigh the rice, or when scaling a dish up or down.

Basmati's long, slender grains settle less uniformly in a cup than shorter varieties, so the same cup can hold more or less rice depending on how it was poured. Weighing in grams gives a consistent measure every time.
