Baking powder is a leavening agent commonly used in baking to help dough and batter rise. It typically consists of a combination of an acid (like cream of tartar), a base (like baking soda), and a moisture absorber (like cornstarch). When mixed with wet ingredients, it produces carbon dioxide gas, which creates bubbles that cause the mixture to expand and become light and fluffy.
